WAIVER & CLUB RULES
Liability Waiver
I warrant and represent that I am the parent or legal guardian of the participant. I am unaware of any injuries, illness, or other health-related issues related to that would restrict or limit my child’s ability to participate in fencing. I agree to assume all risks and expenses due to an injury that may occur as a result of my child’s involvement in the competitive sports, practices, games, and travel to and from said activities.
In consideration of the risk of injury, while participating in Fencing, I hereby release North Florida Fencing Club (NFFC) from any physical and psychological injury, including, but not limited to illness, death, damages, economical or emotional loss, that myself or my child may suffer as a direct result of participation in fencing, including traveling to, and from, related to this activity.
I, the undersigned participant, affirm that I am of the age of 18 years or older and that I am freely signing this agreement. I certify that I have read this agreement, that I fully understand its content, and that this release cannot be modified orally. I am aware that this is a release of liability, and a contract, that I am signing of my own free will.
Club Rules & Policies
1. SAFETY and DISCIPLINE RULES
Safety Rules: The safety and well-being of our students is our number one priority.
All members of the North Florida Fencing Club (NFFC) are responsible for each other’s safety. Fencing is an extremely safe sport but still can cause safety issues if members do not follow the safety rules. Our rules are intended to maintain a safe and orderly environment for all of our members.
- Always follow the instructor’s directions regarding safety.
- No fencing without a mask, or pointing a weapon at someone who is not wearing a mask.
- Students must wear all the proper equipment in the correct manner to participate.
- Students must walk—not run—with their blade pointed at the ground.
- Students cannot put on their mask while holding their blade.
- Students must “unhook” and “hook up” at the end of the strip during electrical bouting.
- Students should be mindful of other people when getting dressed.
- No walking behind a lesson or bout that is in progress.
- Fencing equipment must be stored safely and in a place where no one can step on it.
- No hard hitting or dangerous fencing allowed. (Students will be asked to leave class, suspended from the Club, and finally, have their membership terminated if there are repeated issues.)
- Students must stop immediately when “Halt” is called.
- Students who repeatedly violate safety rules will be asked to sit out from classes/lessons and may be asked to leave the NFFC if there is a pattern of ignoring safety rules.
2. Make up policy
There is no thing such as make up practices at NFFC. If you miss the group practice for any reasons, you lose it! You are allowed to cancel or reschedule private lessons as long as you do it 24 hours prior the private lesson. Please do not assume that the club knows you will be missing a lesson or class because of a tournament, school holiday, or family circumstances. You will be charged for your session. Practice might be cancelled by the club due to holidays or bad weather circumstances.
3. Billing and payments
Monthly membership fees are due on the first day of the month. There is a 15% late fee for late payment, or check is returned. All members are required to join USA Fencing at the minimal “non-compete” level ($15 annual fee). Click here to complete your USA Fencing membership. A USA Fencing membership is a requirement for NFFC insurance purposes. Students may not take part in any classes or lessons without it.
4. Competitions
NFFC hosts several tournaments during a season. The tournament schedule is usually posted on the website. NFFC members are expected to take part in competitions as it demonstrates their level of skills. Beside domestic tournaments, there are local, regional and national events. You are welcome to discuss out of town tournaments with your coach if you plan to train seriously. There are tournament fees for each competition. You are charged the fees prior to the start of the tournament. If a coach travels with a NFFC member to competition, the NFFC member is also responsible for paying coaching fees (transportation, lodging, food expenses are included). These fees are charged prior the traveling day for each day of coaching. If a member is registered for a tournament and does not show up (for any reason), coaching fees are not refundable.
